Paintings by Arlene Dubo
For 30 years my work has been inspired by an idea that intrigues me about internal or external nature.
Now, painting without knowing what the outcome will be about or look like is my preferred process.
This process is meditative and keeps me in the creative moment for prolonged periods of time.
It hones my understanding of the language of art making and takes me in new directions.
It enables me to worry less and cope better with the difficult times we live in.
Arlene Dubo artist statement
My process begins with an idea that intrigues me about internally or externally observed nature.
I explore these ideas through acrylic paintings.
My work has been exhibited and sold at individual and group exhibitions for over thirty years, in Canada (Montreal, Toronto, and Bear River),
the USA (Nashville and Cookeville), and most recently in Sri Lanka (Galle Fort UNESCO Heritage Site and Colombo).
Love and Knowledge is a series I have been working on since 2013.
Stirred by readings on the science of meditation, the mindfulness movement and secular Buddhism,
I created a group of paintings that consider how compassion results from a deep understanding of the transient nature of reality.
This work is an exploration in the attitudes of loving kindness, compassion, empathetic joy and equanimity.
